Mental Health 101

Presenters: Jasmine Young and Danielle Owens

Join us for an exploration of identities and character traits through the lens of COLORS. This interactive workshop utilizes the Colors Assessment as a guide to learn more about you and the various populations you come in contact with. Come learn valuable skills to utilize when communicating and working with individuals from various backgrounds and increase your own self awareness.

Jasmine Young, LCPC, CADC

Jasmine Young, LCPC, is passionate about mental health, especially for Black Americans, who are underrepresented in both the utilization of mental health services and in the profession itself. She believes increasing representation in the field, granting all appropriate multicultural competent services, and unpacking and validating the impact of historical trauma on the Black community is only the beginning of this fight that we all must continue to push forward.

Danielle Owens, LPC, NCC

Danielle Owens is an LPC who began her studies in 2019. She worked with various populations, consisting of youth, adolescence and young adults. While working at a community agency, she was a coordinator of an anger management group for youth and adolescence. In addition, Dani has worked within middle schools as a youth and family therapist. She currently works within community colleges with student support services programs. In her current role she works as an advocate encouraging students to advocate for themselves and to learn how to have a better understanding of their collegiate process. A goal for her is to continuously support young adults on their journey of understanding themselves as they navigate life.

JEDI 201:Check Your Rhythm: Unpacking Bias in Creative Spaces

Implicit Bias & Microaggressions Duration: 60 minutes

Format:

Scenario-Based Role Play + Music-Based Exercises Overview: Using rhythm games and reflective prompts, members will identify and address the biases that affect interpersonal dynamics, recruitment, leadership, and collaboration within fraternity life.

Learning Objectives:

● Define implicit bias and microaggressions.

● Recognize how bias manifests in creative/fraternal contexts.

● Practice interrupting bias through role-playing exercises. Activities:

● Icebreaker: "Name That Bias" beat game.

● Guided music activity: Songs with coded racial/gender messages.

● Role-play scenarios: Bias in auditions, leadership selection, performance spaces.

● Group reflection: Strategies for accountability.

Brother Chanceton Scott-Bennett

Born in Columbus, Ga, Chanceton Scott- Bennett is a proud graduate of the Unsinkable Albany State University. During his matriculation he became captain of the ASU Cheerleading squad and President of Fuzionz Hip Hop Dance Crew. He started coaching dancelines in 2012 with Albany High School and in 2014 started with the Sweetest Peaches in the State of Ga, The Albany State Golden Passionettes. As he is still the director of dance with the Passionettes he is also dance director of the Creekside High School’s Golden Essence. Mr. Scott-Bennett teaches Science and dance at Creekside High School. As a Spring 2017 Charter initiate of Delta Phi Delta Dance Fraternity, INC. he has served as Alpha Epsilon President twice, Southern Region Liaison, and now the National Vice President of Internal Affairs. Chanceton member of House Arrest 2 Championship Dance Team INC.

Soror Ashley "Stix" Walker

Ashley Walker better known as Stix. Ashley is a mother of 2. She works as a paraprofessional at Wilkins Elementary School. She is also a coach of a youth cheerleading team. Ashley has been a member of Delta Phi Delta Dance Fraternity, Inc. for about 4 years now. She was initiated through the ATomic Alpha Theta Chapter in Summer 2021. She serves as the current President of her chapter. She is also the Regional Webmaster and the National Historian. She is also on the leadership team for N.E.O.

Brother Rashad Jackson

Rashad Jackson is an inspiring and dedicated educator, rising creative leader, and soon-to-be graduate of Tallahassee State College, set to earn his degree in December. With several years of impactful teaching experience at Brownsville Preparatory Institute, Rashad is committed to fostering inclusive, student-centered learning environments where every child feels empowered to succeed. Currently teaching Rising 3rd Graders during the summer, Mr. Jackson specializes in designing culturally responsive, engaging academic activities that align with Florida’s B.E.S.T. standards and the principles of Universal Design for Learning. He is known for integrating academics with the arts, data-driven strategies, and positive behavior incentives to support holistic growth in every learner. In addition to his work in the classroom, Rashad serves as the choir director at Brownsville Preparatory, where he leads The Brownsville Voices—an empowering student choir that celebrates unity, culture, and excellence through music. He also holds a leadership role in Delta Phi Delta Dance Fraternity Inc. and previously held the title of Mister Delta Phi Delta, showcasing his passion for performance, brotherhood, and service. With a strong family legacy rooted in education, Rashad Jackson continues to walk in his purpose—educating, inspiring, and leading the next generation toward success.

Panel Discussion: Join us as we lead a discussion about the challenges and promote a space for empathy, listening to understand, and listening without an agenda. The goal is to uplift Prophytes and hear one another with open minds and hearts.

Brother Carnell Jarrell II

Carnell has been dancing since 1992 when he, his younger brother, Soror LaTreshia Thomas, and a few of their neighborhood friends started their own basement dance team. He joined his first official dance team, House of Creation at Lindblom Park in 1995 and then Lindblom Technical High School’s Swoop Troop in 1997. After an 8 year break from being a member of a Chicago dance team, Carnell followed an 11 year dream when he joined HA2 in Fall 2006 which led him to become friends with several of the 2006-2007 members of DPhi! In that time he learned that his close friend since 2000 was none other than DPhi’s Founder, Terrence Johnson! In his first 2.5 years of growing within HA2, he expressed his interest in joining the organization to Terrence who immediately embraced the idea. Coming up on 16 years of membership with DPhi, Carnell has been a member of the National Board as well as each of his Chapter Boards since 3 weeks after crossing. He has also served our organization in other States (prior to Regions) and National capacities including the current role of National Finance Chair. He is the Co-Founder of Gamma, Sigma, Psi, Alpha Pi, Alpha Sigma, Delta Alpha, and Delta Beta Chapters. Carnell is also the Co-Creator of both the Delta Delta Chapter for Elite Members along with Founder Johnson (where he is a member of the First Class) & Cubs Care Mentoring Program and the designer of the Hearts’ Crest. The rest (which somehow there is still so much more) is history

Soror Brionna Windmon

Brionna Windmon formally known as Kenya Moore has been dancing for over 20 years in the city of Chicago where she incorporates many dance styles, like hip-hop, ballet, modern, contemporary just to name a few . Later on she attended Northern Illinois University, where she got her bachelors in corporate communication with a minor in dance. She made an impact on the Dance community at NIU with winning best female dancer 3 years in a row. Brionna Crossed the Tantalizing Theta Chapter of Delta Phi Delta Dance Fraternity Inc in spring 2016 where she has held multiple Eboard positions for her chapter but she is currently been the president for the past 3 years, in her presidential term her chapter has won chapter of the year for mini conference (2022) and national conference(2023) .She was presented with the president’s choice award for Midwest mini conference in 2022,she also received the Distinguished Award in 2023 at national conference and was inducted in the Elite chapter (Class 3) in 2023. She has also been a part of the nomination /voting committee for the past 2years for the national conference. She got her MBA with emphasis in human resources from Grand Canyon University where she was inducted into the honor Society. Brionna has a heart of gold that is willing to help any and everybody that she comes across and wants to help the organization grow in any way that she can

Brother Joshua McGrier

Brother Joshua McGrier is a Spring 2009 initiate of Delta Phi Delta Dance Fraternity, Inc. via the Magnificent Mu chapter at South Carolina State University. Born in Anchorage, AK, and resident of multiple states, his family roots stem back to South Carolina. Currently, he resides in Atlanta, Ga since earning his BSW in 2012. Soror Candyce Evans

Candyce Evans is a dedicated member of Delta Phi Delta Dance Fraternity, Inc., with over a decade of service committed to the growth and excellence of the organization. A proud Midwest Panther with a southern flair, Candyce exemplifies the core values of service, "phamily," effective communication, and hard work. Initiated through the Zealous Zeta Chapter in Fall 2013, Candyce has held numerous leadership roles at the chapter level and currently serves as a Regional Liaison. She also holds the position of Chapter President for the Debonair Delta Alpha Chapter for Progressive Panthers. Drawing from the wisdom and guidance from the prophytes who came before her, Candyce leads with a respect for tradition while embracing innovation. Her goal is to inspire and prepare the next generation of Panthers to carry forward the legacy of Delta Phi Delta Dance Fraternity, Inc.

Brother Nasir Baker

Nasir Baker (Nas) was born and raised on the south side of Chicago. After years of being raised in a family that loves house music, it was no surprise that rhythm came naturally. Nas joined the Morgan Park High School Pom team where he gained much of his dance experience prior to leaving Chicago to pursue his post secondary education at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, AL. During his years at TU, Nas joined a dance team called UnexXxposed where he served as President for a year. Shortly afterwards, he joined the Uproaring Upsilon Chapter of Delta Phi Delta Dance Fraternity, Inc. (affectionately known as the UpSLAYon Chapter) in the Spring of 2018. After gaining more experience in dance with Upsilon, Nas later joined HA2 C7 in the Summer of 2019. Nas’s professional experience with both organizations include Chapter VPE and SP22 MIC (DPhi) as well as Historian (HA2). Nas is also a member of the Founder’s Council for the Alpha Sigma Chapter. Since graduating with his Masters in Occupational Therapy, Nas has moved back home to Chicago where he is currently still performing with HA2 and working as a Special Education Classroom Assistant with Chicago Public Schools and as an Educator with Right at School. Nas continues to support both Regions of DPhi by attending both Region’s Regional Conferences and Bonding Events, being an active member of Zealous Zeta Chapter and providing mentorship to Upsilon as needed.

Brother Kyle Davis

Kyle Davis Sr, 33 hailing from the Windy City of Chicago,Illinois. by way of Thee Distinguished Delta Gamma Chapter, began his Journey through panther land sprummer of 2020 as a charter Tail and hasn’t slowed down yet. Since then, he has been Mr. D Phi for the southern region, President and VPI twice for his chapter, Community Service Chair twice, and an active dance captain, all while fathering 4 beautiful children.

A Real-World Workshop on Professional Dance Industry Etiquette This workshop is designed to educate, engage, and empower emerging dancers with the essential etiquette, expectations, and insight needed to thrive in the professional dance industry. From the rehearsal room to the audition floor and set life, attendees will gain tools to help them become not just talented performers—but booked, rebooked, and respected professionals.

Brother Braven Sloan III

Braven L. Sloan III is a professional dancer, choreographer, and creative leader, proudly representing House Arrest 2 Championship Dance Team, Inc. and Delta Phi Delta Dance Fraternity Inc. His training includes work under top choreographers like Kiki Ely, Ysabelle Capitule, and Lyrik London and more, as well as time with the renowned Groove 2 Musik Dance Company. A current NBA dancer, Braven blends precision, presence, and passion across every stage he touches. He is also the creator and host of And 5,6,7,8: The Podcast, a platform focused on professional dance industry etiquette, real-world insight, and elevating dancer voices through honest conversation.
